[Review] Ultra-Act Eleking

Header1

Eleking (エレキング) is a fictional, electric-eel-like kaiju first appeared in the tokusatsu TV series Ultraseven. Eleking has been one of the most iconic monsters to appear through out the Ultra Series and has gone on to win the Japanese Best Monster Award for the Ultraseven series, being called the most impressive of Ultraseven’s enemy kaiju and aliens (from wiki).

Ultra-Act Golza (Tamashii Exclusive), Eleking, Red King and Gomora are “four sacred monsters” in the Ultra-Act line. The reason why named them “sacred monsters” is not only their huge packaging and great sculpt, but also their currently high prices. Sometimes even you could afford the high price, it is still hard to get one because of no longer in production.

(1) Package

Eleking was released in 2010 which is the ninth product in the Ultra-Act line and the box still adopts the old design. Really huge and thick box.

One special design here is unlike other old-style Ultra-Act boxes, the design on the top is just a “Ultra-Act” logo, there is a silhouette of “Ultra Seven flying mode” on the top of the Eleking box which looks really cool!

Nothing special with instruction paper except for the Eleking Tadpole usage. It is not just an accessory, it is a tool (will show you guys how to use it in later section). Interesting! : D

Two-layer inner package and large items like Eleking itself and swappable tail are fixed with wire.

(2) Contents at a Glance

Not too many accessories compared to other Ultra-Act ultraman products, but not bad among Ultra-Act monsters.

  • Eleking Tadpole
  • beam effect
  • tail discharge lighting effect * 2
  • swappable strangling tail

9

Before moving to next section, the first thing we need to do is connecting the normal tail to the Eleking.

(3) Sculpt and Paint

Eleking’s sculpt and paint are nothing short of phenomenal! It has accurate proportions and great details. Distressed-style painting makes it look a little bit stained and dirty and more like real TV costume.

Spot-on head sculpt and awesome paint job!

The joints in the legs are hid really well.

Elbow joints when you look at it from certain angles are noticeable but still ok. : )

(4) Articulation

Head and neck articulation:

360-degree-rotation horns just like the TV show.

Eleking Tadpole:

Beam effect:

Here comes our Eleking Tadpole “tool”! Use it to take out the teeth in order to plug in the beam effect. : )

41  42

Beam effect uses soft material and is not easy to break.

45  46

Swappable strangling tail, really cool!

Tail discharge lighting effects:

Very flexible accessories and use them in any way you like.

(7) Conclusion

Ultra-Act Eleking is nothing short of incredible! This figure has a fantastic sculpt, awesome paint, spot-on proportions and it’s well articulated as a heavy huge monster. The accessories are also well done. I highly recommend you to pick one up if you’re interested.
