Ultra-Act Ultraman Gaia V2 first released in 10/22/2011 and re-issued in 10/25/2013. The first release bonus is ” Korin Effects”. My figure is re-issued so sadly it does not come with this bonus.
Gaia V2 means Version 2. It first appeared when fighting with Zoruim. Hiroya realized that he no longer deserved to be an Ultraman, and surrendered the blue Agul-force within his Agulator to Gamu and walks away, apparently consumed by a fireball shot to Earth by Zoruim, and was presumed dead. To insure his sacrifice was not in vain, Gaum accepted Agul’s light and turned into a new and improved Ultraman Gaia: Gaia V2 (quote Ultraman Wiki).
(1) Outer box and instruction page
(2) Inner Box
Two levels of inner box. The first level holds the figure Gaia V2 and small accessories. The second level contains big effect parts like Quantum Stream beam.
(3) All items
Figure set includes Gaia V2, two additional sets of interchangeable hand parts, red color timer, plastic stand attachment, alternate head with Photon Edge and Quantum Stream beam. Moreover, the set contains a new gimmicks – alternate head with “Daylight” eye effect.
(4) Three views of the figure
The sculpture and painting are faithful to the Ultraman Gaia V2 suit in the TV show. Unlike the bright silver printing of Gaia V1, the silver is a little bit dark. The sculpted head with transparent yellow eyes and gold stripes is really like the real one. Also, the gold color is similar to the show, making the whole figure more accurate.
(5) Head Articulation
(6) Waist Articulation
Here comes a common problem – loose waist. I bought three Gaia V2 before and one of my friend also bought one. I opened two of mine and both of their wrists are loose. My friend’s figure also has the same problem. I am not sure if the one I am selling also has this problem but I guess it will be. As for me, it is not an important problem and just appears when the figure holds the Quantum Stream beam or use the alternate head with Photon Edge. But even in these situations, you can use Tamashii Stage Act to solve this problem.
(7) Body Articulation
(8) Accessory One – Red Timer
The shoulder armor can be picked off but it is not necessary because there is no other alternate armors and you can just change the timer without picking the armor off. I saw some collectors said that it is hard to swap the timer because of its small size and firmness. If it happens, you can first pick the armor off, then change the timer. But not every figure has this problem because it is easy to change the timer for mine.
(9) Accessory Two – Head with “Daylight” eye effect
It is really cool with the “Daylight” eye effect head! The trick is that there is a transparent plastic throughout the head to eyes (see the second picture) so the light can penetrate the head.
It seems to be real just like the TV show!
(10) Accessory Three – Head with Photon Edge
The Photon Edge is made of transparent pink PVC with some white painting. Because of this accessory, you have another head and now there are three heads with Ultra-Act Gaia V2.
(11) Accessory Three – Quantum Stream beam
The Quantum Stream beam is molded in PVC and with some flavescent highlights. In order to use the Quantum Stream beam, a particular hand is provided. This key-shape hand can plug into the modeled slot in the Quantum Stream beam (I circle it in the third picture).
Summary:
According to the figure I owned, the Gaia V2 has a little poor quality control compared to other Ultra-Acts. Some scratch on the skin and painting out of bound in several areas. The big common problem is loose waist. Even with these problems, this is still a great figure with good sculpting and accurate painting. Well-proportioned shape makes it more real and handsome. The head with “Daylight” effect eye also make it a worth-buying figure that you cannot find the similar accessory in other Ultra-Acts.
